Teeing Off for the Walton Foundation Golf Classic

Being a part of the Augusta community has always been an honor and a privilege - especially when we get opportunities to support great benefits like the Walton Foundation for Independence Phil S. Harison Memorial Golf Classic! Held at West Lake Country Club, this prestigious event is a fundraiser to support the Walton Foundation, a charity to "inspire philanthropy to support programs and services that create an inclusive lifestyle for people with disabilities in our community to live, work and play." Supporting both the young and elderly, the foundation raises awareness for residential opportunities like Harison Heights, a supported living facility that helps provide independence to those with disabilities.  The community also offers a day program to get those with disabilities to participate in Adaptive Recreational Activities, including bowling. Milton Ruben Superstore is excited to have the opportunity to sponsor Hole #3 during the tournament on Monday, September 15 - and we invite you to join other CSRA community members in supporting this wonderful organization!  We hear lunch and dinner will also be provided in addition to hours of relaxing tee time! From the Walton Foundation for Independence: "The annual Walton Foundation Golf Classic is an Augusta tradition in the fall of the year. Named after Phil S. Harison, Chairman of the Walton Foundation Board (1998-2007), the annual tournament pairs golfers from all over the community who come together to support the Walton Foundation’s mission. Up to 35 teams enjoy a day of unprecedented golf at beautiful West Lake Country Club, lunch and an Awards Banquet at the end of the day. In addition to fun on the course and a goody bag filled with gifts, every golfer receives a choice of Footjoy products including top of the line golf shoes. Winners receive beautiful gifts of crystal etched with the name of the tournament, date and place. Opportunities abound for sponsorships, in kind donations and ways to help underwrite the cost of the tournament. Hole sponsors are encouraged to set up on their holes for a day of fun, sharing business information and treats with the players." McAvenger: The McDonald's Augusta Co-Op Incentive

Golden arches, value menu, late night snack in college, a clown you thought was funny when you were a kid, but now kind of seems a little on the creepy side - the thoughts that come to mind when you hear " McDonald's."  How about free 2014 Avenger? McDonald's Restaurant store owner Andy Harrelson, of Aiken, SC, visited us last week and selected a sleek, red, brend-spankin-new Avenger to give away to a manager in the Co-Op of Augusta.  At a breakfast hosted in downtown Augusta at the Kroc Center, Mr. Harrelson joined other owners in announcing how each store in the Co-Op performed in reaching their goals over the past year.  Each manager earned tickets for their respective compliments, and the tickets were deposited into a Happy Meal box.  Five tickets were selected for a chance at owning the red beauty in the parking lot outside, as well as a hefty check to distribute as bonuses among their department.  Selected managers reached into the box and pulled out the key to a 2014 Dodge Avenger, and streamed outside to test out which key would be "the one." One by one, each manager tapped the panic button on the key, the crowd tensed in suspense for who would be the new owner... and none triggered a response.  Perplexed, each manager tested out the button again - Finally, Latoria Bussey burst into a shriek and smile as her key triggered the panic alarm in her brand new 2014 Dodge Avenger! Restaurant Manager Latoria Bussey celebrates winning a new 2014 Dodge Avenger as Restaurant Owner Jennifer Bonness rushes to congratulate her. A big congratulations to Ms. Bussey!  That car looks great with you in it! Protect Your Pooch: Car Pet Safety

It takes twenty minutes for you to realize anything else exists when you get home from work every evening because you are too busy being worshipped by that whole body wiggling and spinning in awkward momentum with it’s tail - also known as the tornado.  PetsMart cashiers know you by name when they ask how little Roscoe liked that Hide-A-Treat ball you picked up for him on his birthday last month, and they laugh knowingly as you explain the adorable demon destroyed that “indestructible” toy like it was a cotton swab.  That little fuzz ball just might be the love of your life (sorry, honey).  So these canine-friendly car safety concerns spamming your news feed lately might be making you lose a little sleep (amidst those soft puppy snores coming from the corner of the bed - again, sorry, honey). Admittedly, one of the reasons I chose to write this blog was so I could find a ton of adorable puppies in cars. Allow us to help!  Pick up several canine-friendly safety tips for the road from our own list:   1.  No Shot Gun for Shotsie! - Vehicle airbag safety systems were created to keep humans safe, not dogs.  When they deploy, it could be at speeds high enough to literally end your pooch.  It’s hard to make road trips without him happily hanging his head out the window and lapping up the passing air, but it’s for the best that they be enjoying the view in the back seat. Pet seat belts are available to secure your pet in the back seat, where they are safe from the force deploying air bags in the case of an accident. 2.  Secure Sable - Familiar with the chaotic traffic of Atlanta? All of that speed-up, quickly slow-down, swerve to avoid that lovely gentleman that just cut you off from three lanes over?  That kind of motion can do some severe damage to anything that isn’t tied down - especially a small body that isn’t sure whether they should sit, stand, or run around the car in circles barking at every passing pick-up.  Investing in a pet carrier, pet seat belt, or car barrier is worth the life of your lab, and will help prevent you from being distracted. (Check out how to use a harness with a seat belt.) Pet car barriers can help keep your pets safe from getting tossed around in the car. 3.  Distract Doby - Everyone is a safer driver when their patience hasn’t been thinned by a very vocal dog warning other cars in traffic that these four wheels are his territory. Bringing long-lasting chew toys are a great way to calm down your canine and distract them from passing prey.  A lot of experts specifically recommend a hollowed-rubber toy stuffed with cheese, peanut butter, or other treats your pet enjoys.  Put that persistence to work elsewhere! This method of securing your puppy doesn't look according to American Humane Society's suggestion... 4.  Drug Dottie - My poor Shadow, a beagle-aussie mix, was a terrible road trip buddy.  The little thing got so car sick and anxious he would shriek, whine, and well - it was rarely a pleasant trip.  Our veterinarian recommended children’s motion sickness meds, hidden in a teaspoon of peanut butter.  Shadow was a little groggy, but he kept a little more hair, and we kept a little more sanity.  Check with your vet to get suggestions on what to use for your pup’s car sickness or anxiety, especially on long trips. Some vendors sell water bottles that can be attached to a door handle and used like a hamster or guinea pig would. 5.  Gear Up for … What’s a dog name that starts with G? … Some amenities are a necessary evil.  You may feel comfortable with the 82-degree AC, but it’s likely Rover is already a little anxious, shedding, panting, and sweating.  Pets frequently overheat themselves under stress, so it’s an absolute necessity that they have water available.  Smaller pets can be trained to drink water from larger bottles similar to those used for hamsters and guinea pigs (in my experience, the cheaper they are, they more they leak).  Some genius extraordinaire out there also figured out how to develop a spill-proof water bowl, so there are definitely options available. It took far too long to come up with the concept of a multi-layered spill-proof bowl. Do they have these for kids too? 6. Never, Ever, under ANY circumstance, leave your pet in the car alone.  On a hot day in Georgia, it takes less than ten minutes for a vehicle to reach 120F with the windows partially open (ask our sales people).  That’s a death sentence to your beloved.  It’s also a felony.  Obviously you wouldn’t want to leave your car running without you in it either, so finding another solution is truly a necessity. If you need to run in somewhere and there’s no one to keep the pup company, you could simply explain the situation to the patron.  Since the passing of the animal cruelty act, a lot of businesses ( ours, for example) are understanding and will find some way to help you get what you need without abandoning your animal. In Georgia, when heat rarely ventilates due to the humidity, even leaving windows open partially could still endanger the life of your dog. Summer road trips don’t have to mean a kennel for your canine - you can easily find ways to safely travel with your best friend!  Please remember to keep them hydrated, and as always, enjoy it!   To keep getting Car Safety Tips, like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter!

10 Reasons We're Excited for Fort Gordon's Independence Day Celebration

Between the funnel cakes, great music, and awesome people we met at Fort Gordon's Springfest last April, we couldn't resist another opportunity to support our #LoveAugusta community - so when we heard that Fort Gordon hosts one of the biggest, brightest, and boldest Independence Day bashes in the SouthEast, we practically leapt out of our loafers to be a part of it. And THIS time, it is ALL about our customers, our troops, and the beautiful people of Augusta, GA, and Aiken, SC.  Here's a list of the top ten things we can't wait for this week: 1. Our first ever three-day Freedom Tent Sale on Barton Field: We have set up a huge tent on Barton Field next to the stage - and there's no way you'll miss the stretches of gorgeous vehicles we'll have available for test drives (yes, ALL of them will be available for test drives).  We are even bringing some of our best Pre-Owned stock! We also have top secret, insane, crazy, over-the-top deals and discounts happening out there.  So insane, we're scared to post it in a public venue. (Corporate sponsors, look away!) We have already given away one of our three Yeti Coolers - come to our Tent Sale and be the one to go home with the second! 2. Seeing the Swingin' Medallions: Hitting the stage on Thursday evening at 7pm, the Swingin' Medallions are known as the "Party Band of the South," mastering covers of our favorite classics, as well as bringing their own sound to classic rock originals.  Every performance is a party with the Swingin' Medallions!  (Does this mean we should bring our dancing shoes?) Check them out on Facebook! 3. Getting rid of all of this junk: We have boxes stacked up all over the back nooks and crannies of our offices - and we're ready to get rid of them! Who knows what's inside! Jeep hats, Ram hats, Dodge hats, Mopar blankets, cups, coozies, water bottles, thermoses, backpacks, duffel bags, a Yeti Cooler, and that's all the digging I could do before the paper cuts descended.  It's a little late for spring cleaning - but we're doing it anyway.  Stay up to date with what we're doing with all that junk by liking us on Facebook, following us on Instagram, and on Twitter. This basket stuffed with Ram merchandise is just one of the things we're giving away this week! 4. Seeing you having a blast: One little card up our sleeve for the Carnival on Thursday - an Instagram Scavenger Hunt!  I will be investigating the grounds bright and early Thursday morning to sniff out stuff hidden around the place - and I'll be posting hints to help you find and photograph something happening at the fair.  The contest goes from 3:30 - 5:00, and every correct answer gets a point.  I can't tell you what you'll win yet, but trust me, it's valued at over $150. I've had to hide it from people so it doesn't disappear! I can't show you what's up for whoever wins the Instagram Scavenger Hunt - but I can tell you it's worth a lot more than this. 5. Giving out coupons: It's hard not to be patriotic when so many of our employees are veterans, and so many of our amazing customers come to us from Fort Gordon.  So we've put together a special coupon for anyone with a military ID - and it's hundreds of dollars off.  See the folks at our Tent Sale for more details! 6. Telling everyone about our DriveBaby™ Contest: It's shocking to hear that there aren't more people talking about our DriveBaby™ scholarship! It's so easy to enter, and so simple to win - why wouldn't you want to enter your little one? We are so excited to tell more people about this exciting opportunity - and it's super exciting! (Can you tell we're excited about it?) 7. Funnel Cake: 'Nuff said. (Drools.) 8. Showing off our specialty wrapped and decaled vehicles: The Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram manager David Percival is a huge fan of community events, and he has not failed to bring us some very special products to show off at this one.  You'll have to come see us to find out what I'm talking about, but when we say glory and patriotism, we mean it! 9. Listening to the Signal Corps Band: Because who has more practice knocking the Star Spangled Banner out of the park than a military band?? 10. Fort Gordon's Famous Firework Spectacle: It's infamous.  It's resilient.  It's persistent.  And from what we hear, it's Army Strong.  We can't wait to be in awe of Fort Gordon's once-a-year everything-but-the-kitchen-sink blowout firework spectacular!   After a list of stuff like that, why in the world would you NOT be there?  Drop in, take something off our hands, and enjoy everything Fort Gordon Morale Wellness and Recreation has been hard at work to provide! Happy Birthday, America!! Read more about our Community Involvement here! This post was written by Milton Ruben Social Media Manager Heather Cortright.  Photos and graphics provided by the same.

What You Didn't Know about Donating Blood

It's that time again - time for us to host Shepeard Community Blood Center 's mobile blood donation truck on our pre-owned lot!  In the spirit of giving, we thought you might like to expand your mind with a few facts about donating the gift of life: 1. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. 2. The blood type most often requested by hospitals is Type O (the universal blood type). 3. The average red blood transfusion is 3 pints. 4. Over 1.5 million Americans were diagnosed with cancer in 2013. One third of chemotherapy patients will require a blood transfusion during treatment. 5. One car accident victim could require as much as 100 pints of blood. 6. A single blood donation can save as many as three people. 7. Risk of accidents increases over the summer and during the holiday season, thus increasing the need for blood. 8. 4.5 million Americans would die each year without the assistance of a blood transfusion. 9.  On average, the typical blood donation from start to finish takes about 45 minutes.  (The actual blood-taking takes about 10 minutes.) 10.  One pint of blood weighs about a pound.  So every time you give blood, you lose a pound. 11.  Human beings have four blood types - A, B, AB, and O.  (Cows have over 800 blood types.) 12. President Reagan required a total of twelve pints of blood transfusion after the assassination attempt in 1981. 13. President Jimmy Carter gave multiple gallons of blood over his lifetime (type A negative). 14. Only 5% of the American population donates blood on a regular basis, despite over 37% being qualified. 15. One in seven people will need a blood transfusion at some point in their lives. This summer, Shepeard's Center has teamed up with Harry's Saw Shop to put all donors in a drawing to win a riding lawn mower - a Husqvarna powered by Briggs & Stratton.  They will be in our Pre-Owned lot on Wednesday, July 9 from 11am until 3:30pm - perfect to squeeze into your lunch hour! So what do you have to lose? (Other than a pound.) Come see us at 3508 Washington Road in Augusta and save a life or three!   UPDATE: A great big thanks to all who came out to donate last summer! Now, we're planning our Fall Blood Drive! This time, Shepeard Blood Community Center is giving away a $25 gift card to one of our donors! Come see us on the Pre-Owned lot and Save A Life or Three! My #MoparLove Story: Falling for Irene

It's not hard to put yourself in my flip-flops on that sticky, mid-summer afternoon in downtown Columbia, SC.  If I had been interested in this blind date, I might have worried about the sweat soaking each limb, but instead, I shot a text to this mystery guy that I was standing in front of Pawley's Front Porch as agreed, and tipped my head back to soak in a few angry rays of Vitamin D. I tried to recall what photos I had seen of this guy to my mind - tall-ish, buzz cut, goofy grin, giant trophy with a gilded muscle car on top.  Oh yea, and an obnoxiously bright orange, black striped hunk of metal behind him.  Or at least that's what I thought of Irene at the time. But I didn't know her yet. I didn't used to be much of a car person.  I didn't used to be a big fan of Army Officers either, until I met Matt.  I had no idea that evening in July of 2012 would change so much when a 2011 SRT8 header orange Challenger revved it's engine at the light in front of the restaurant.  I didn't know that purr of eight powerful cylinders would soon release butterflies into my stomach every time I heard it.  What I thought at the time, actually, was "Great. Two hours with a guy who is going to be way more into his car than me."  And a little bit "Man that engine sounds nice..." Matt, Irene, and myself at the Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Corvettes Against Breast Cancer benefit in October 2012. I know now that the hours that would follow was a lot of self-control on Matt's part - NOT talking about his car, belovedly dubbed "Irene" after a hurricane (a story for another time), or Michigan football (I'm still getting over that one), two of his favorite subjects.  But it was for the best.  Instead of forcing Irene on me, Matt allowed me to find her qualities all by myself. Self portrait on the Dragon's Tail in TN. August 2012.   My first ride in Irene was on our fourth date, barrelling down I-20 with a rainbow of other mopars - his car club.  They teasingly attempted to make the Dodge-loyal Michigander blush without running me off over the radio, then unleashed the 8-year-old on me to test out my own "cool factor." Matt showed off his control of the manual transmission, and I lost my phone charger to the deep dark depths beneath the passenger sport seat. (Irene's rite of passage for me, perhaps?) Just a few of the mopars in one of our car clubs after some detailing. Matt's pretty proud of this pic. July 2013. Over the months that passed, through hours testing the limits of motion sickness on the Dragon's Tail, experiencing the force of 120mph on Atlanta's Motor Speedway at the Corvettes Against Breast Cancer benefit, seeing the family-like affection the car clubs had for Matt, and witnessing his face light up behind the wheel after a 90-hour work week, I found myself becoming fond of both of them. Now, people ask me on occasion if it bothers me, how "into cars" Matt is, that he named his vehicle, how much time and money he spends on it.  You really want to know?  Not at all. Matt and I in front of the 2013 SRT TA Viper Matt got to drive at one of our SRT events. Irene has given us a lot of pretty amazing opportunities for stuff like this. March 2014.   Irene helped me understand the automotive industry a little better; she brought me to this job; she afforded us an opportunity to meet great people and make life-long friends; she gives Matt a sense of pride and a safe haven from the stresses of his job; and, selfishly, she gifts me with uninterrupted quality time on the road with my very busy military man.  I'm glad Irene is such a huge part of our lives - and that she always will be.  We wouldn't be where we are today without her. Do I think it's a little weird that I've adopted this affectionate obsession with calling a car by a feminine pronoun? Absolutely.  But that's growing on me too. Matt, Irene, and myself at the Fort Gordon Springfest BOSS Carshow, where we won two trophies - one for club participation, and one for Irene's sweet carpets I got for Matt on his 27th birthday. That's my #moparlove story - What's yours? Share it with us! Introducing, Heather Cortright, our new Social Media Specialist.  Heather graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2011 with a degree in Visual Communications.  After a few years working as a photojournalist with the US Army, and a period of time at a non-profit school in Columbia, Heather came to us a photographer, transitioning into our social media position last month. In her free time, Heather volunteers on Fort Gordon and enjoys photographing road trips she takes with her boyfriend and his SRT Challenger.  Welcome, Heather!

How to Win our DriveBaby™ Contest

Milton Ruben loves nothing more than giving away stuff to our wonderful CSRA community! If you haven't yet heard about our DriveBaby™ Contest, you are missing out!  This $1000 scholarship opportunity is based out of our search for a precious, innocent face to represent our Superstore in commercials, photos, and other media materials.  The contest has been running for a couple months now, and we've already had several beautiful babies compete - and win!  So how can you not only join the effort, but up your ante to win?   Kylee, our March DriveBaby™ Photo Contest Winner! 1. Enter Early -This is not one of those situations where you swoop in at the last minute and attack with a final bid of three cents, stealing that collector's lunch box from some poor soul on e-Bay with zero remorse.  This is one of those annoying situations where that pesty early bird packs some earthy protein goodness.... or a scholarship and a RC toy Corvette Stingray. The longer your child's picture is on our app, the more opportunity people have to see his or her precious face, and choose them to be our DriveBaby™! 2. Share Your Story - Put some oomph! behind that precious face by personalizing it! Remember that a lot of people who are going to see this photo know absolutely nothing about your kid - but if you tell them something infinitely cute about them (ex: "Her best friend in the whole world is her daddy!") you might sway them to the power of those puppy dog eyes.  Especially if it ties in to the photo! (If you want to put even more fluffy backstory, send me your kid's story and why they should win at socialmedia@miltonruben.com.  I'll share the photo and the story!*) Maya, our April DriveBaby™ Photo Contest First Place Winner! 3. Share the Link to the DriveBaby™ Contest App - You have supportive friends, family, and acquaintances you haven't spoken to in four years, right? They would love to support the widespread adorableness of your kid, right?  Well, if you never tell them how to support the widespread adorableness of your kid, it's going to be tough to tug and their heartstrings isn't it?  Share the app and direct them to "like" the photo of your kid - consider it their investment in your child's education! (Can a click be a tax write-off?) 4. Comment & Like Our DriveBaby™ Contest Posts - The voodoo of the Facebook News Feed is a lot like high school; The more someone is talking about something, the more it's going to come up, and the more people will see it, and start talking about it again.  It's a vicious cycle, but it's going to get that photo of your pride and joy more eye traffic - which means more likes!   Our May DriveBaby™ Photo Contest winners 5. Keep trying! - You can keep entering every month until you win the Grand Prize!  What's the worst that could happen? You end up getting enough Toys-R-Us gift cards to cover the entire Christmas shopping fandango? Who's child will be the next DriveBaby™? It could be yours!   There you have it!  Just a few ways you can improve your chances to make your kid a CSRA star!  For more information (and the fine print), see our Facebook Contest App at http://bit.ly/DriveBabyContest.   And, of course, have your kid practice our famous phrase, "Drive Baby Dot Com - Click Click!" *Story must be sent at least 7 days before the end of the contest for that month. 2015 Chrysler 200 Hits Augusta

Last week was an exciting week at Milton Ruben Chrysler Jeep Dodge. We welcomed two of the newly redesigned Chrysler 200s to our store. We like to call them, " the gems from Detroit." The first we noticed about the vehicle's were obviously it's exterior.  The design is refreshing and shows the direction the Chrysler line is heading towards. They have taken took mere sheet-metal, crafted molded, & elevated it into something that is not only at home on the road, but could also be displayed at Augusta's Morris Museum of Art. The sculpted trunk lid, headlights accents, and arching roofline make the Chrysler 200 sure to go down in the historic books as a definitive turning point in American car design. The day the cars happened to arrive was a stroke of luck.  We were hosting an advanced screening of A dam Sandlers's & Drew Barrymore's latest hit romantic comedy " Blended " at the Regal Cinemas. So we had a chance to take the sporty 200s model with us to the movies and give it a proper Augusta debut.  As we drove we became intimate with the luxorious cabin of the car which made us feel like American royalty.  The  200s' s PentaStar V-6 engine's acceleration was strong, smooth, but not noisy.  After we arrived at the theater we handed the keys over to Brent from CW Augusta who acted a ringmaster, giving the car a grand introduction to the crowd that came to the movies. As a dealership it was exciting to see how the public reacted to the newest member of our family. Many enjoyed the design and were shocked that the sticker price was not astronomical.  Some enjoyed the fully digital display and the way the cockpit complements the driver. One woman even proclaimed " This is my new dream car". Now thats not bad for  the 200's first day out in Augusta!! The thing is though, you can read about a car all day, watch youtube videos, but in order to really learn more about you have to see it in the flesh. MILTON RUBEN HELPS RAISE $780 FOR LOCAL SCHOOL
 THROUGH TEST DRIVES

GROVETOWN, GA - Milton Ruben Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram presented a $780 check to Bakers Place Elementary as a donation from Chrysler brand’s Drive for the Kids® program this morning.  The fundraising event was held on Saturday, May 3, 2014, in conjunction with the school’s Spring Carnival. Pictured: (from left to right) Fourth grade teacher Jennifer Turner, who organized the Drive for the Kids® program with Chrysler, Leeann Fleischauer, Principal of Baker Place Elementary, and David Percival, Sales Manager of Milton Ruben Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. “We were excited to get involved with Drive for the Kids® because it gives us a chance to give back to the community,” said David Percival, Milton Ruben Chrysler Sales Manager.  “We’ve really been making an effort this year to participate more in local events.  Plus, it gave Augusta area parents a chance to test out our minivan.  A lot of them were surprised it has so much power.” Participants earned a $10 contribution to the school on their behalf from the Chrysler brand by taking a brief test drive in a 2014 model Town & Country minivan - highest ranked in loyalty 12 years in a row - as well as a 2014 Chrysler 300, both made available for test drives thanks to Milton Ruben Chrysler. At the conclusion of the 2014 program, the school with the highest number of test drives in each one of the five geographic regions (Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Central, and West) will win an additional $5,000, for a total of $25,000 in additional funding from Chrysler through the Drive for the Kids® program. Since 1993, when Chrysler introduced Drive for the Kids®, Chrysler dealers have worked with parents and educators in communities across the nation.  Chrysler has contributed over $5 million directly to local schools for student needs, from playgrounds and field trips, to reading programs and new computers.  Chrysler is proud of this tradition of community involvement. Milton Ruben’s continued community efforts include their February involvement in Soles 4 Souls, a shoe drive for the needy; #LoveAugusta, a social media project highlighting the beauty of Augusta, GA; and their ongoing Drive Baby™ Contest, the search to identify a face of Milton Ruben.
