Voting is open daily from 6 a.m. to midnight EST. Every day, the previous day’s winner is announced and a fresh batch of five nonprofits is introduced for your consideration. Starting May 9 through August 16, it’s the voters’ turn to do their own good deed by voting for their favorite stories and causes. All voters have to do is log into their Facebook profile and use the 100 Cars for Good app to vote for one of that day’s five nonprofit organizations. Chrysler plans to introduce compressed natural gas-powered (CNG) vehicles in 2017. Bob Lee, Chrysler's VP for engine and electrified propulsion systems, says, "The technology is very actively being worked on." Fiat, which has a 30% stake in Chrysler, currently offers CNG vehicles in Europe. Fiat says CNG is an attractive way of cutting emissions because the technology is cheaper than hybrid or electric drivetrains. In other parts of the world, as many as 2% of the vehicles on the road are fueled by natural gas, in countries as diverse as Brazil, India, and Iran. The United States overtook Russia two years ago to become the largest single natural-gas producer in the world. It uses the bulk of the fuel for home heating and electricity generation; for vehicle fueling, infrastructure remains a major challenge. General Motors will offer CNG and liquified natural gas versions of the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana full-size vans to fleets and commercial customers later this year. Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) has announced it will produce vehicles at all of its Japanese facilities from April 18 to April 27, at which time it will shut down for an annual spring holiday. Production volume will be at half the normal level. TMS continues to address the production situation, following the earthquake and tsunami on March 11. Resuming vehicle production in all of its plants follows the March 28th resumption at the Tsutsumi Plant in Aichi Prefecture and at Toyota Motor Kyushu, Inc. in Fukuoka Prefecture, as well as a planned production restart on April 11 at Central Motor Co., Ltd.’s Sagamihara Plant in Kanagawa Prefecture. An announcement has yet to be released about its parts supply situation.
