Japan scores big this year with two entries among the top three positions in the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI). After falling last year amidst major quality problems, Toyota’s Lexus (+2%) and the Toyota (+4%) brand itself glide into first place at 87, matched by GM’s Cadillac (+1%).
According to ACSI, it seems Toyota’s fall from grace in the minds of consumers was just a small blip in a long history of customer satisfaction. Toyota has consistently ranked among the top-scoring automotive brands during the sixteen years data has been collected.
Overall, the auto industry ACSI score improved by 1.2% to 83.
About ACSI
The American Customer Satisfaction Index is a national economic indicator of customer evaluations of the quality of products and services available to household consumers in the United States. Data from interviews with approximately 70,000 customers annually are used as inputs into an econometric model to measure satisfaction with more than 225 companies in 47 industries and 10 economic sectors, as well as more than 130 federal government programs, agencies, and websites. Results are released on a monthly basis with all measures reported using a 0-100 scale. ACSI data have proven to be strongly related to a number of essential indicators of micro and macroeconomic performance. For example, firms with higher levels of customer satisfaction tend to have higher earnings and stock returns relative to competitors. Stock portfolios based on companies that show strong performance in ACSI deliver excess returns in up markets as well as down markets. And, at the macro level, customer satisfaction has been shown to be predictive of both consumer spending and gross domestic product growth.
The Index was founded at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and is produced by ACSI LLC.

Chevy Cruze Eco: Offers Best Gas Mileage
The Eco version of the Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan currently holds the highest highway rating (42 mpg) for any gasoline-power car sold in the U.S.
Chevy achieved better fuel economy by cutting weight out of the normal Cruze, lowering the stance, adding low-resistance tires and more carefully managing airflow so Eco slips through the air easier.
With roughly the same space as the Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra and other compacts, it’s poised to give hybrids some competition, offering up strong mpg for a modest price.

Ten Features Your Car Will Have by 2020
Peering into the future of automotive technology, we take a look at the features that are likely to be big sellers.
Safety will always be a top concern to consumers, and car companies will continue to develop technology to help reduce accidents. Fuel-efficiency will be a concern for both consumers and automakers, as fuel costs and government regulations continue to change.
Here’s a list of ten features you can expect consumers to be willing to pay for by 2020:
1. Collision Mitigation Systems:
Radars sense when you are driving too fast or too close, and the vehicle warns the driver with auditory or visible cues. The brakes may be “precharged” with extra stopping power, and the seat belts may tighten.
2. Rearview Cameras:
Rearview cameras are likely to become standard equipment, thanks to a proposal by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that would require all light passenger vehicles to have the technology by 2014.
3. Pedestrian Detection and Night Vision:
System can bring the vehicle to a full stop if it detects a pedestrian. Night-vision systems detect infrared light or amplify available light to help you see a person who is out of range of your headlights.
4. Adaptive Cruise Control:
Radar keeps you at a safe distance from the car in front while cruising at highway speeds, so that you don’t have to constantly hit the brakes and reset your cruise control.
5. Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communications:
Transmits your vehicle’s location and recognizes other vehicles surrounding you. It can warn you of an oncoming car when you want to pass a vehicle, warn you of a vehicle about to go through a red light, and let you know if there’s a traffic jam.
6. In-car Communications:
Navigation, music, phone, and apps like Facebook and Twitter. Tech is here to stay.
7. In-car WiFi:
Surfing the web via voice commands.
8. Fuel Consumption Reduction Tech:
Regenerative brakes to recharge the battery when you step on the brake pedal, and a system to turn off the engine and restart it when you take your foot off the brake (similar to today’s hybrids).
9. Advanced Engines:
Hybrids, mild hybrids, turbocharging and direct injection. Plus transmissions with more gears.
10. Lightweight Materials:
Carbon fiber is likely to replace some of the steel and aluminum components. A lighter vehicle increases fuel efficiency.

Best Gas Mileage: New Toyota Prius to Get 107mpg
In a move expected to challenge the Chevy Volt, Toyota is about to introduce a new 107mpg plug-in hybrid version of the Toyota Prius at the auto show in Frankfurt, Germany next month.
Toyota says the car will be the cleanest and most technically advanced Prius built to date, featuring a newly designed, compact lithium-ion battery that enables the plug-in Prius to achieve a remarkably low fuel consumption rating of 2.2 liters per 100 kilometers (107 miles per gallon U.S.) and CO2 emissions of just 49 grams per kilometer.
The Prius plug-in hybrid will go on sale in the U.S. in early 2012, and unlike the Chevrolet Volt and the Nissan Leaf, the Prius Plug-in will likely have a price tag that’s below $30,000. The Prius Plug-in is expected to sell for $3,000 to $5,000 more than the standard Prius, which starts at $23,520.

Want to see the new Prius plug-in when it arrives? Contact Milton Ruben Toyota at 706.868.5454 and let us know you want to be informed when the new Prius is on its way. Or check out all of our Prius models at www.MiltonRubenToyota.com.
